When to Visit:
Spring is arguably one of the best times to visit Houston. Temperatures range from the mid-60s to mid-80s °F, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing without the unbearable heat of summer. The humidity hasn’t kicked in yet, and the days are comfortably warm. These days are perfect for strolling around the Museum District, exploring Hermann Park, or visiting the beautiful Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens.
What you should wear:
Houston has a humid subtropical climate, which means it can get quite hot and muggy, especially during the summer months. With temperatures often rising above 95°F , lightweight and breathable fabrics are a must to keep you comfortable. If you’re planning on doing a lot of walking around in Herman Park, bring some shorts and looser fitting shirts. For anyone visiting in the fall or winter, a longsleeve and a sweater is more than enough for most days although there are about 2 weeks where the temperature drops below 35. If youre planning on doing mostly indoor activities, dress in what youre comfortable in just be mindful of what time of year youre visiting and refer to this guide.
How to get around:
Houston is a car-centric city, and renting or driving your own vehicle is the most convenient way to get around. Houston’s Metro system offers bus and light rail options that are affordable and accessible, but are often late and unclean. The city’s vast size and spread-out attractions make having access to a vehicle highly beneficial. Houston’s extensive highway system, including I-10, I-45, and I-69, makes it easy to travel across the city and surrounding areas. However, traffic can get heavy, especially during rush hours (6am-10am and 4pm-7pm).
