As the crack of the bat and the cheers of the crowd echo through ballparks across the nation, the 2025 Major League Baseball season is officially kicking off with an exhilarating Opening Day lineup. Fans, excited to see their favorite teams back in action, will witness a series of matchups, featuring both fresh faces and seasoned veterans, along with plenty of engaging storylines. From historic rivalries to new-season hopes, the excitement is uncontrollable as the MLB welcomes a new chapter in baseball’s cherished tradition. In this article, I’ll be recapping the most thrilling moments from Opening Day, analyze the standout performances, and highlight the games that set the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable season.
Dodgers’ vs Cubs

The Dodgers took on the Cubs in an exciting and monumental first game of the season. The game was held in the Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo, Tokyo Japan. The game started off with Yoshinobu Yamamoto making his MLB debut and pitching the first five frames of the game. Chicago was the first to strike in the Opening day affair in the bottom of the second with a double from Miguel Amaya to score Dansby Swanson for the first run of the 2025 season. In the fifth the Dodgers came back with three runs of their own coming from Pages, Ohtani, Hernandez, and an assortment of small ball from the Dodgers. Both the Cubs and Dodgers bullpens contributed, adding three scoreless innings from the sixth through eighth. At the top of the ninth the Dodgers added another run scoring after an Ohtani double and Hernandez single to end the scoring for the night. Closer Tanner Scott came in to shut down the Cubs three up three down to end the game 4-1, giving the Dodgers the first win of the season.
Yankees vs Brewers

The Yankees and Brewers started their season in the Bronx playing in an exciting opener. The Yankees season started off with a bang with Austin Wells homering in the first and Anthony Volpe following that up with his own in the second. In the third Vinny Capra homered for the Brew Crew making the score 1-2. Carlos Rodon, and Luke Weaver both had excellent outings, going a combined five shutout innings from the fourth through the eighth. In the bottom of the seventh the Yankees added two more runs from a Judge double and Bellinger sac fly. Milwaukee tried to rally back in the ninth, scoring Ortiz on a Turang sac fly, but it wasn’t enough, ending the game 4-2 and giving New York their first win of the season.
Orioles’ vs Blue Jays

The Orioles went up to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays for their season opener. The Orioles came ready to swing, having Adley Rutschman homer to start the scoring for Baltimore. Zach Eflin started the game off hot for the O’s pitching three scoreless innings to start the game. The Orioles tacked on more runs in the second and third with O’Neill scoring in the second and getting his own RBIs with a three-run homer making the score 5-0 at the end of the third. In the fourth the O’s scored again with another homer this time from Cedric Mullins. Toronto got on the board at the bottom of the fourth with a two-run shot from Andres Gimenez to make the score 6-2 with five innings to go. Zach Eflin and company put up a shoutout for the rest of the game not allowing a single Blue Jay to cross the plate after the fourth. The Orioles continued their dominant offensive performance scoring three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Cedric Mullins hit his second home run of the day with a three-run shot in the seventh, Rutschman hit his second homer of the day as well with a two-run shot, and a final Jordan Westburg to end the scoring for the night. The Orioles took down the Blue Jays 12-2 to start the season 1-0.
Marlins vs Pirates

Marlins vs Pirates was a thriller of a game. Paul Skenes started the game off right where he left off last season with two innings scoreless to start the game. The Marlins struck first with Derek Hill scoring on a fielder’s choice to put the Marlins up 1-0. In the fifth inning the Pirates came back with some runs of their own, scoring Hayes and Kiner-Falefa on a single from Bryan Reynold. Pittsburgh added two more the following inning with a two-run homerun from Nick Gonzales to put the Pirates up 4-1 in the middle of the sixth. After a slew of walks from the Pirates, the Marlins scored off a passed ball from Santana to make the score 4-2 at the end of the sixth. In the bottom of the eighth the Marlins tied the game with two singles from Lopez and Myers making it 4-4 going into the ninth. After a triple from Fortes in the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Stowers hit a walk off single to give the victory to the Marlins 5-4.
Red Sox vs Rangers

The Red Sox went down to Texas for their first game of the year to take on the Rangers. The game started off with the Rangers scoring first in the bottom of the second inning with a Pillar single to score Jake Burger. In the top of the third Rafaela hit a fielder’s choice shortstop to score Abreu and tie the game. In the bottom of the fourth the Rangers came back with another run with a double from Higashioka to score Pillar making 2-1 to end the fourth. At the top of the fifth Wilyer Abreu hit a homerun to tie the game for Boston. Both the Boston and Texas bullpens put up a good fight going scoreless innings 6-9. In the top of the ninth once again Wilyer Abreu hit his second home run of the game with a three run shot to give the Red Sox a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. In the bottom half Justin Slaten made quick work of the Rangers going one, two, three to give Boston the win 5-2 and start their 2025 season 1-0.
Astros vs Mets

Astros vs Mets was an exciting defensive game. The Astros struck first in the second inning with a ground ball from Meyers to score Jeremy Pena for the first run of Houston’s season. It didn’t take long for them to score again, scoring two runs in the third inning on a single from Diaz to score Paredes and a fielder’s choice error that allowed Walker to score making it 3-0 after the third inning. After the third both Framber Valdez, Clay Holmes both respected bullpens settled in going scoreless for five innings straight. In the top of the ninth the Mets made things interesting, scoring a run on a sac fly from Lindor to score Marte from third. Josh Hader closed the rest of the game to give Houston the win over New York 3-1 starting their season 1-0.
With a wonderful season underway with great baseball being played. We sit and wonder who will finish on top. With so much parody in the league it is anyone’s chance to win it all. I know I can’t wait to see who wins; can you?
