I Can’t Write, I Can’t Math—Help Me!

mossai26, April 9, 2025April 9, 2025

Heyyy you. Yes, you—the one staring at your laptop screen wondering how you managed to get to college without ever learning how to write a proper thesis statement or solve for x without spiraling into an existential crisis.

Welcome. You’re safe here.

We’ve all had that Block Plan panic moment. That “how am I supposed to write a WHOLE paper in 3 days” meltdown. That “if I have to read one more sentence in this stats textbook, I will combust” moment. 😵‍💫 You are not alone.

Let me put you on real quick: there are academic resources at Cornell College that actually help—two in particular that too many people sleep on: The Quantitative Reasoning Studio and The Dungy Writing Studio. Yes, those names sound fancy. No, you don’t have to be fancy to use them. Yes, they are FREE.99 and very much built for people like you and me.

The Dungy Writing Studio – Your Essay Lifeline

Headed by the incredible Laura Farmer (aka Queen of Making You Sound Smarter Than You Are), the Dungy Writing Studio is where you go when your essay is NOT essaying… as in, things are not going well at all! 😭

For real though. Whether you’re brainstorming a topic, struggling with structure, or staring at a blinking cursor for 45 minutes thinking “I’ll just drop out,” they got you. And no—you don’t need a “good draft” before you go. They’ll meet you wherever you’re at, chaotic Google Doc and all.

You can make an appointment or just walk in and say, “Hey, I have no clue what I’m doing,” and someone will go, “Bet. Let’s figure it out.” It’s actually one of the few places on campus where you’re allowed to be confused out loud without judgment.

And trust me, that’s a gift.

On the other hand, if writing’s not the issue but numbers make you break out in hives, 😭 say hello to the Quantitative Reasoning Studio, run by the legend herself, Jessica Johanningmeier. 😄(Shoutout to Jessica for keeping students from dropping every stats class ever.)

This spot is for anyone taking econ, psych, chem, bio, physics, or any class that hits you with graphs, formulas, or numbers you weren’t emotionally prepared for. The tutors here are chill, and they won’t roast you for not knowing how to calculate standard deviation.

I know this because I’m actually a tutor here myself, so stop by and say hello!

We’re trained to help you understand what’s going on—not just give you answers. And if we can’t help you directly, we’ll point you in the right direction. It’s all part of that academic support at Cornell College that too many students don’t take full advantage of.

We’re all trying to graduate, not just coast. You feel me?

TL;DR: You Don’t Have to Suffer in Silence

Cornell is hard. Like, Block Plan hard. But you don’t have to go through it alone.

These resources aren’t just for the “struggling student” stereotype either—they’re for anyone who wants to level up. Even if your grade is solid, you can still get feedback, clarity, or just some reassurance that you’re not completely off track.

So the next time you find yourself in a late-night study spiral—four cups of dark roast deep, eating dry cereal out of the box, and questioning your entire academic life—remember: academic support at Cornell College is literally right there.

And it doesn’t judge.

Pull up. Ask questions. Leave smarter than you came in.

You got this. Fr.

Oh—and if you end up acing your paper or finally understanding p-values for once, don’t forget to thank the real MVPs at the studios: the tutors, and of course, Laura and Jessica.

Now go forth and be an absolute academic weapon. YOU ARE ACADEMICALLY UNSTOPPABLE.
(Or at least slightly more stable. Lol.)

Love and light,
Michael! 😄✨
