How many student organizations do you think there are at Cornell College? 10?<\/em> More than that.  20?<\/em> Keep going up. 30?<\/em> Bingo! There are 11 academic orgs, 12 special interest orgs, and 7 identity-safe space orgs on campus. This post will give a general overview of all the orgs and how to get in touch with the org if you\u2019re interested in learning more or joining!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Organizations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BOOM<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

BOOM is a student-run magazine that publishes work from students at Cornell College. BOOM\u2019s mission is to encourage creativity and provide a platform for free speech. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Isabella Leo), a Vice-President (currently Isabella Strauss), a Treasurer (currently Max Cahoon), the Head Curator & Community Outreach Officer (currently Adelaide Ries), and a Curator & Community Outreach Officer (currently Ringo Wilson). Chemistry Club<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Chemistry Club hosts events and study sessions to encourage interest in chemistry and support chemistry majors at Cornell. Some events Chemistry Club has hosted include an elephant toothpaste experiment, creating liquid nitrogen ice cream, exploding pumpkins, and more! The E-Board consists of a President (currently Elin Kairies), a Vice-President (currently Emma Rowe), a Treasurer (currently Eddie Banda), a Secretary (currently Josalin McKeever), and an Event Coordinator\/Historian (currently Ana Munn-Carstensen). Cornell Historical and Archeological Society (CHAS)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cornell Historical and Archeological Society (CHAS) gives students a place to discuss current issues in cultural heritage.  Additionally, CHAS presents opportunities for career and graduate school networking.  The E-Board consists of a President (currently Cameron Bennington), a Vice President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer.  CHAS holds events to learn about and connect to the past, present, and future on Cornell\u2019s campus!  If you\u2019re interested in learning more about CHAS, email historicalsociety@cornellcollege.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engineering Club helps students develop skills and complete projects to prepare for a career in the STEM field. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Mason Ciari), a Vice-President (currently Ava Powers), a Treasurer (currently Romas West), a Secretary (currently Jonas Ricke), and an Events Coordinator (currently Eva Todd). Engineering Club does blocky study sessions open to all students in West and does multiple projects throughout the year! Geology Club promotes geological inquiry outside of the classroom by going on field trips, inviting visiting lecturers, watching films, and hosting information student presentations.  Additionally, the Geology Club aims to foster intellectual interchange and interaction between students and faculty. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and a Webmaster. German Club<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Health Professions Society (HPS)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Health Professions Society (HPS) aims to be the primary means of interaction for students interested in health-related fields. HPS serves to support students interested in health-related fields, provide information about available resources, and provide guidance to Cornell students interested in health-related fields. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a national organization that works to educate, support, advocate, listen, and lead to improve the lives of people with mental illness and Cornell has our own chapter! Cornell\u2019s NAMI chapter hosts events to discuss and inform people about various mental health problems (ex., drug addiction, eating disorders, depression, and more). Pre-Law Honors Society (PLHS)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Pre-Law Honors Society (PLHS) is an org for any students interested in a future career in law, politics, or government. PLHS promotes \u201cacademic excellence and leadership through legal networking, skill development, scholarship discovery, workshops, events, and activities.\u201d The E-Board consists of a President (currently Sunny Howard), a Vice President (currently Celina Schertz), a Secretary (currently yours truly, Daniele Ebert), a Treasurer (currently Kaden Legore), and a Public Relations Manager (currently Luis Rom\u00e1n Bonilla). Some events PLHS has done this year include: speaker events with professors and current law school students, legal game night, a trip to the federal courthouse in Cedar Rapids, and more. Members gain points for a variety of PLHS meetings\/events or legal-related activities and with enough points can graduate with Pre-Law Honors. Chess and Games (C&G)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Chess and Games Club aims to promote multi-faceted gameplay including board games, electronic gaming, live-action role-playing, and tabletop gaming. C&G holds weekly meetings to promote various games and recreational activities. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President (Ambassador), a Treasurer (Dragon), a Secretary (Scribe), a Historian (Archivist), a Publicist (Voice), and a Webmaster (Web Monkey). Cornell Craft Fair Council (CCFC)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cornell Craft Fair Council (CCFC) aims to help Cornell crafters gain experience selling their art by hosting multiple craft fairs throughout the year. Environmental Club<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Environmental Club focuses on raising awareness about environmental consciousness. KRNL is a student-run, college radio station that provides entertainment and serves as an educational growth experience for DJs. KRNL\u2019s purpose is to: encourage the broadcasting of diverse music, promote personal experimentation and growth, and be a valuable source of campus entertainment and news. The Executive-Staff consists of, a Station Manager, a Business Manager, a Program Director, a Music Director, a Promotions Director, an Events Director, a Technical Director, and an Online Director. The Lifting Club helps Cornell students stay in shape by teaching about lifting and supporting people while they lift! Lyrically Inclined educates students about the art of slam and spoken word poetry by holding workshops, spoken word performances, slams, and guest performances.  The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President (currently Emy Taylor), a Secretary (currently Camille Diaz), a Treasurer (currently Onaney Garcia), an Events Committee Chair (currently Adelaide Ries), and a Public Relations Chair (currently Isabella Leo). Ski and Snowboard Club allows Cornell students to engage in fun activities while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Any student can sign up for a trip to go skiing. The Ski and Snowboard Club takes students on day and weekend trips. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Public Relations Officer. Student Theater Council (STC)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Student Theater Council (STC) aims to produce at least two installments of student performance works each year. STC also aims to supplement the educational opportunities provided by Cornell\u2019s Theatre Department. The Cornellian<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Cornellian <\/em>aims to provide the Cornell community with an educational and informative presentation of Cornell through the creation of a newspaper. Students write articles about events, classes, activities, and other miscellaneous topics about Cornell. Editions of the Cornellian <\/em>can be found all around campus; you can find editions in the library and Thomas Commons right now! The Cornellian<\/em> staff consists of an Editor-in-Chief, a Business Manager, and Additional Editorial Board Members when needed. The Performing Arts and Activities Council (PAAC)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that PAAC stands for the Performing Arts and Activities Council? I didn\u2019t! PAAC is the main organization for student events and activities on campus. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Emma Shipley), a Business Admin (currently Ella Henza), a Marketing Chair (currently Fiona Anderson), a Contracts Chair (currently Gavin Wallace), and a Purple Chair (currently Kimberly Hall). Sustained Dialogue<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sustained Dialogue gathers students for dialogue concerning current campus issues to serve as a resource for the Cornell Community during times of conflict. Identity Safe Space Organizations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alliance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Alliance is a safe space for \u201cpeople who feel marginalized by their self-identified or perceived sexual or gender identity, expression, or characteristics.\u201d  Additionally, serving as a resource to educate people about the diversity of sexual and gender identities. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Web Designer, and a Historian. Black Awareness Cultural Organization (BACO)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Black Awareness Cultural Organization (BACO) is an organization that raises awareness of diversity through historical, social, cultural, and academic settings. First, BACO empowers Black students through community and support. Second, BACO raises awareness for African and Black American issues through programs and projects created for the Cornell community. Third, BACO educates individuals about African and Black American history and culture. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. The Officer\u2019s Council consists of a Constitution and Policies Chairperson, a PR\/Advertising Chairperson, a Historian, a Volunteering Chairperson, a Black History Month and Martin Luther King, Jr. Chairperson, and a BACO Living and Learning Community Representative. Some events BACO has done this year include: Don\u2019t Touch My Hair, a faculty and student-led POC panel, the BACO block party, and more! GENTE is a multicultural group of members of the Latine community at Cornell College. GENTE hosts events to educate about and celebrate Latine culture. Some events GENTE hosts include El Baile, Dia de los Muertos celebration, Elote Night, and more! Hillel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Hillel is an organization founded on the principles of Judaism to reinforce the identity and values of Cornellians of Jewish backgrounds.  Additionally, Hillel also aims to be an inclusive and accepting organization that promotes education about the Jewish religion, culture, and political standing. The E-Board consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and a Communications Officer. International Student Association (ISA)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

International Student Association (ISA) promotes the well-being of international students and friendship, interaction, and understanding between international students and the Cornell community. ISA creates a safe space and support program for international students. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Elifsude Degirmenci), a Vice-President (currently Omorinsola Olubayo), a Secretary (currently Ava Spaulding), a Treasurer (currently Oskar Diyali), an Events Coordinator (currently Samual Tokpa), a Public Relations Officer (currently Tashiaunna McGhee), and a Social Media Manager (currently Sonnie Sandoe). ISA hosts social, educational, and cultural programs to raise awareness about and celebrate varying cultures. Split<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Split aims to make a community and support system for bi\/multi-racial students and bring awareness to the experiences of bi\/multi-racial students. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Marley Gillespie). Split hosts events to teach students about the experiences and struggles of bi\/multi-racial students in order to bring diversity and awareness to Cornell\u2019s campus. The Overseer of Organizations: Student Senate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Student Senate acts as a voice for the student body and makes contributions for the betterment of all students by maintaining transparent communication and unbiased perspectives. There are 16 senators divided into four per class. The E-Board consists of a President (currently Veronica Schuchart), a Vice-President (currently Gavin Wallace), a Chairperson of Academic Affairs (currently yours truly), a Chairperson of Appropriation (currently Luis Rom\u00e1n Bonilla), a Chairperson of Organizations (currently Grant Anderson), a Chairperson of Student Life (currently Levi Thompson), and an Office Manager (currently Oriana McKannan). Student Senate oversees all Student Organizations and disperses money (coming from all student\u2019s \u2018student activity fee\u2019) to organizations. What do I do if there’s an org I’m interested in but it’s not on this list?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a process for starting a new organization! Any student can start an org but to receive funds, they need to become an officially recognized organization by Student Senate.
