Queer Terminology
Queer: Unless it’s used derogatorily, it’s okay to say! I promise you LGBTQ+ people won’t get mad at you referring to them as queer. A queer person is anyone that deviates from the cisgender heterosexual norm, and we use it interchangeably with LGBTQ+.
Cisgender: This just means your gender matches up with the one assigned to you at birth.
Transgender: A person whose gender does not match up with the one assigned to them at birth.
Nonbinary: A person whose gender does not match up with our society’s pre-established, traditional gender binary.
Heterosexual: A person sexually attracted strictly to the sex opposite of theirs.
WLW: Stands for women-loving-women. It is an umbrella term for any women that holds attraction for other women, whether they be lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, etc.
